Small But Mighty: Delivering Big Results with Minimal Resources

SSP Conference Workshop, showcasing on Friday, October 4, 2024 at 7:30 AM – 9:00 AM CDT; Grand Ballroom 3, Wyndham Grand
Led and co-authored by Rebecca Maine (Curion), Annette Hottenstein (Fuch's NA), and Lauren Yunker (Natures Fynd).

Small Teams, Big Impact: Navigating Sensory Testing Challenges

This interactive workshop will tackle the challenges of running sensory testing and developing a sensory department with a small team, sometimes even a team of one. With the market today, many areas of business are looking to maximize costs and resources, and many sensory departments are being asked to do more with less.

Doing More with Less: Maximizing Resources in Sensory Departments

The workshop will empower sensory scientists, managers, and professionals to work through the challenges that small sensory departments face and discuss potential solutions. Four experienced sensory professionals will lead the session by sharing their own experiences and unique solutions, followed by facilitated breakout sessions discussing four areas of challenge: facility, growth & influence, methods (informal, formal, and creative), and leveraging outside resources.

Real-World Solutions from Skilled Sensory Scientists

The session will conclude with sharing the main challenges and providing the group with solutions to meet project objectives and deliver the big results companies are looking for. This session will be of value for anyone challenged with working in a small sensory department or looking to expand and deliver results to support department growth and add value.

What Challenges are you Tackling?

This session is for you if you agree with any of the following statements:

  • I often feel that sensory is underleveraged in my company.
  • I am starting a sensory program from scratch and don’t know where to focus my efforts. I spend a lot of valuable time coding cups and doing “grunt work”.
  • There are too few employees at my company to facilitate panels. I do not have a ‘proper’ sensory facility to work in.
  • My management is reluctant to fund outside testing resources and consultants. I am fighting a ‘golden tongue’ mentality.
